Highline Public Schools was selected to join GEAR UP Achievers through the University of Washington. GEAR UP—Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs—is a national initiative that provides students and families with the tools, guidance, and support they need to prepare for and succeed in college.
All 7th and 8th grade students at Cascade, Chinook and Glacier middle schools are enrolled in GEAR UP Achievers. The program will follow them into high school and continue through graduation, ensuring students and families have consistent support along the way.
To mark the start of the first full year of GEAR UP Achievers in Highline, students at these schools will take part in National GEAR UP Week, September 22–26. Activities throughout the week will include participating in hands-on STEM demonstrations, exploring in-demand careers, and learning about our local colleges.
This celebration connects our schools to a larger state and national network, all working together to expand access to college and career opportunities.
