Learning Guides May 4, 2020

Dear Cascade families,

We hope that you had a safe and restful week.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we cannot say enough wonderful things about how hard they are continuing to work in support of our students’ learning. Please help us celebrate them by sending an email of appreciation, dropping off a card at meal pick up/tech hours, or saying thanks during Office Hours this week.

In this letter, you will find:

  • Updates on our grading policy during the school closure
  • The family learning guide with assignments for the week
  • Our suggested weekly student schedule with teacher office hours
  • A survey that we invite you to take that will help inform our remote learning plan

Grading Policy During the Closure

  • Pass or Incomplete will be the only grading options for Highline middle school students for second semester during the 2019 - 2020 school year.
  • Middle school students will receive a “P” for passing by attempting and/or completing the activities and learning assigned by their teachers to the greatest extent possible.
  • It is important students participate in lessons provided for continuous learning and preparation for next year.  Please use Family Learning Guides and Suggested Weekly Student Schedule to help your child be engaged.
  • An “I” (incomplete) may be given at the end of the semester for students who did not show progress on any assignment although they had the ability to do so.
  • We will continue to reach out to our families on a bi-weekly basis to address any concerns or barriers that might prevent a student from participating in the learning opportunities given.

What you can expect from us this week (May 4):

  • Monday: Grade Level Family Learning Guide and Google Classrooms will be available and updated with assignments for the week.
  • Please try your best to have assignments done and turned in on Sundays. Reach out to advisors and/or teachers if you need support or have questions.
