May Family Newsletter
Hello Cougar Community!
With only about 30 days remaining of the school year, students are thinking about all the growth they’ve demonstrated this year, and what skills they want to foster as they promote to the next grade level. In April:
🎒 Students completed their Smarter Balanced Assessments in English Language Arts and Math!
🎒 Music students performed in a variety of concerts, including joint performances with Evergreen High School!
🎒 Students in 6th grade Language Arts watched contrasting versions of the Aladdin movie, inspiring them to write their own “fractured fairy tales,” in which they choose essential details of their favorite stories to change in order to study how these story elements contribute to the author’s purpose and meaning!
🎒 Art students moved into making Ceramics, learning several strategies of hand-molding to cultivate their own objects, ideas, and style!
🎒 We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, with a week’s worth of fun events and special gratitude for all the ways that our teachers serve our students, our families, and our whole community!
🎒 Cascade grad and current staff member Lexx White got nominated for Coach of the Year!
🎒 We welcomed our new bookkeeper, Mr. Ceja, to our Cascade Staff!
Please read on for more information about the year-end events at Cascade, and opportunities for students to learn, grow, and lean into their interests this summer.

WCAS Science Testing (8th grade ONLY) The Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) measures the level of proficiency that Washington students have achieved based on the Washington State 2013 K-12 Science Learning Standards, which are the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). All students are assessed on their knowledge of the standards through the WCAS in grades 5, 8, and 11. The tests fulfill the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirement that students be tested in science once at each level: elementary, middle, and high school. The Middle School WCAS test assesses Science knowledge learned across 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Cascade students will test in their Science classes on May 23, 24, and 25. Support your 8th grader to attend school each of these days, and to come ready with a fully-charged laptop! |
